"Things I Want My Daughter to Know" Part 2

In response to a friend's comment:

Favourite pieces of wisdom?
Hard to choose, but I've learned from my own experience "when you discover something you love, stock up" - I hate clothes and bra shopping so have learned to buy a number of the same item, in different colours, if I really like/love it!

Also "Travel Heavy" - everyone always says to travel light, but as the chapter points out, you end up not taking appropriate clothing because you were trying to travel light cutting down on what you should have brought but regret not bringing!

Most outrageous?
Again, hard to choose, but something that stood out for me (and it may not be everyone's opinion) but the author says "Avoid joint accounts and shared finances with anyone. It can cause trouble and awkward misunderstandings. Keep separate accounts and seek private financial advice... Having financial control is important because it is a form of power." BTW, the author is married and believes this of her marriage. I, on the other hand, believe I am One with my husband, which means our finances are One. I trust my husband and he trusts me and our finances are ours together. I was horrified to read this!

A second thought - quoted from the author "I choose never to be with anyone for longer than five hours at a stretch... Having houseguests voilates the five-hour rule. This is especially true with in-laws." As much as I can understand where she is coming from, in that it can be hard when you have houseguests as you give up your privacy (or part thereof) for the duration, especially with family, I wouldn't give up hosting just to ensure I'm not inconvenienced in any way. Perhaps I have a different perspective to some in that I LOVE hospitality and hosting people, whether it be over morning or afternoon tea, a meal or an overnight guest. I wouldn't give that up for the world!

So, now that I've put my thoughts out there on a couple of words of wisdom (or lack thereof, depending on who you talk to!), what are you thoughts on the matter?
