"Entertaining Angels"

by Annie Chapman and Heidi Chapman Beall
This book was found in the bargain section of Koorong... and what a bargain for just $5! It was a timely find when Vaughn and were in the store, waiting to move up to Cairns and when I saw the book on its lonesome, I knew it was the book for me - I love hospitality and was looking forward to our move to Cairns and big house so that we could do lots of entertaining, so the book was purchased!

Admittedly, it's quite an "American" book, so some things are harder to apply here in Australia, but it's certainly been a very helpful book. It was easy to read, but filled with heaps of great advice for when you have guests, whether they are here for dinner or overnight guests, or longer.

I've always wanted a recipe for "breakfast casserole" (which I've had a number of times in the States) and this book has it, plus a heap of other recipes. Unfortunately as it's an American recipe, it won't work out quite the same over here as I need to substitute ingredients, and Aussies aren't really into the breakfast casserole thing, but that won't stop me from trying it all the same!

One of my favourite pieces of advice was actually expanding on an idea I already had in my head for overnight guests and I was happy to try it out while my parents stayed here. A welcome basket for their bedroom:

The authors gave well balanced advice for all areas of hospitality, including "Give... But Be Wise", "Showing Off Or Showing You Care" all with Christian values.

I started reading this book while "homeless" and decided that I would have to read it again when we were settled as there were so many great points in there and I wanted to highlight many of them.

If you love hospitality, you'll love this book. If you don't like hospitality, you'll find some helpful tips to make it easier when you find yourself in an entertaining predicament!
