by Diana Gabaldon
This is the second book in the "Cross Stitch" series (or "Outlander" in the US and other countries). I enjoyed the first book very much and although I enjoyed this book as well, I was struggling to read it a bit. The author writes extremely well and she is very educated in the history of the 1600s, so there was a lot of detail about what was happening at that time. Therefore it takes a lot of concentration to read... to be honest, I actually skimmed over a lot of the 'detail' but didn't lose the story line along the way. The writer certainly holds you captive while you are keen to find out what happens and I am certainly keen to read the next books to continue Jamie and Claire's journey. However, I'm going to have a rest from this series and read some other books from my growing list of "to read", especially those that don't take up quite so much energy reading!
